About Me

I am just an ordinary woman living in Singapore.

Why do I blog? I blog about my experiences. Like a time capsule, the blog reminds me on what I was like at a particular moment in time. I also blog so that my friends and relatives overseas and in Singapore know what’s happening to me without I having to repeat to them countless times. I blog when I am frustrated with life. I blog when I am excited. I blog whenever, whatever…

I gripe and I complaint, although I try to do less of that now and write more about the things I appreciate and the lessons learnt.

Blogs allow me to pursue my writing, something I’ve always wanted to do and didn’t, not for lack of opportunity, more due to laziness.

What do I write? I write reviews on everything – food, restaurants, hotels, books, movies. This allows me to practise my writing, something that needs to be done constantly. I write about the challenges in parenting my three sons, one who is approaching adulthood and another approaching teenage.

Lastly, I try to write on topics which I feel can enrich other women and mothers.

Thanks for reading. Your comments are all appreciated.

Thank you for reading.

Hiya! I saw your article in the latest issue of Pioneer. Just thought I’d drop a note to say it was one of the better things to read in the magazine. Kudos!

    • vickychong says:

Hi, I have not seen it yet, and hearing from you about it really makes my day. Thank you for your kind words. I am floating on air.

      • drewpan says:

        Keep on writing!

      • vickychong says:

Thank you for the encouragement, especially at this time when I am feeling particularly like giving up.

      • drewpan says:

That’s odd… why do you feel like giving up?

      • vickychong says:

Lazy, not good enough, no money…excuses I know. Still wondering if I should go back to working full time. Anyhow, I appreciate the kind gesture from you a stranger, or should I say, a comrade writer.

      • drewpan says:

Well, you’ve been blogging for 6 years now. There’s no point quitting for the sake of quitting… just don’t feel so obligated to write that often. But if you meant to monetize the blog, then yeah that’d be a bit more difficult and I have absolutely no advice on that hahahah!

      • vickychong says:

Not from the blog, but from commercial writing or novels. Blogging helps me to retain my so call writing skill.
BTW, the post man just left and still no Pioneer magazine. How come you receive yours so fast?

      • drewpan says:

Pioneer is weird like that. Sometimes I get it at the end of the month. Mindef organizational skills, you know?

    Dear Vicky,

I read your blog quite accidentally while googling for bonus points for admission to JCs from affiliated school. I am completely smitten by your blog. You have such an easy style and I can identify with so many of your blogs. I am a working mother of 3 sons from 12 to 16. Some days I think I am doing well as a mother, other days I feel like a total failure – guess that’s life eh? No blueprint. Just gut instinct. Anyway I enjoy reading it. If you can find the time, do drop an email for a chat and mutual inspiration.

    • vickychong says:

      Hi Veronica,

Thanks for visiting and for the kind comments. To be a working mother of three teens is taxing and I salute you. I know exactly what you mean, the ding dong of mothering, especially when the kids are facing the big exams. Am I glad my days of that are almost over for now, at least until my youngest turn 18.

Do write to me whenever you like, either here or at chong_vicky@hotmail.com.

Came across your site when I was looking for a review on a certain Korean drama, forgot what it was. Hope you can recommend some drama for me. I like funny, romantic stories, with no deaths, pls. Taiwanese drama or Korean or Japanese, although it is hard to get my hands on Taiwanese dramas with English subs. So far, I liked Dream High, Reply 1997, Alone in Love, to name a few. I am also a mother, I have 3 kids. Hope to year from you, no hurries though cuz I know you’re busy. πŸ™‚
    Thanks a lot!

    • vickychong says:

Haha! We have exactly the same taste. If you go through my blog under Korean Drama category, there are some recent good ones, like All About My Romance. Taiwan dramas I like The Good Wife.

  6. kelly says:

I write my blog for the same reasons. To remember and to share. I also enjoy dramas as well. Currently watching Kdrama You From Another Star and Tdrama In a Good Way.

I like reading your blog because it is well rounded and offers a glimpse into life in Singapore. I visited there for 5 days back in 2012 and enjoyed it for the most part. I couldn’t get used to the food centers because it was just so hot and there was so no AC.

But I loved the Cereal Shrimp, its probably the best shrimp dish I ever had!

    • vickychong says:

Thank you for taking the time to comment and for the kind words.

I realise that there are many like us around, who enjoy doing the same things.

Hope you come back to Singapore soon.
