Visiting The Fullerton this August is a celebration of Singapore’s heritage itself, for the hotel is a local prominent historical landmark. Let’s start the tour now.
Start the day with a visit to the hotel’s beautiful interior. There are photos displayed on the walls of the lobby, featuring historical events with important politicians of yesteryears, when the hotel was Singapore’s General Post Office (1926-1996).
Tucked in the corner is an exhibition of painting featuring oil and acrylic paintings of the building and its surroundings, a must for art lovers.
Next to the coffee house, visit “Over Singapore”, a photo exhibition showcasing Richard W J Koh’s spectacular landscapes of Singapore from an aerial perspective. in conjunction with the launch of the book of the same title. The photo prints and book are available for purchase, which part of the proceed will be donated to St Luke’s Hospital.
Hungry? Check out La Brasserie local buffet dinner (6.30pm – 10.30pm). At the media event, we sampled Hainanese Chicken Rice and Laksa, which the server chopping up the chicken proclaimed his the best in town. He was right. My chicken breast, which I usually avoid, was tender and juicy…
Make sure you park yourself across the hotel (best vintage point is One Fullerton and the Merlion Park) by 8pm to watch the 8-minute long music and video extravaganza, entitled “A Celebration of our Heritage”, a video projection produced in collaboration with Hexagon Solution Pte Ltd, the same people who was responsible for the recent SEA Games Opening Ceremony. Like me, you should experience a moment of awe at the colourful 3D images flashed on the facade of The Fullerton Hotel.
Show Time are hourly during the weekends from 8pm to 11pm, and until 10pm on weekdays (3-7 August).
During the Jubilee weekend of 7th and 8th, get free packets of kachang putih and potong ice cream from 7.30pm onwards at One Fullerton for nostalgic treats.
On National Day itself, watch the live telecast of the parade on LCD screens around the bay, with actual viewings of fly past and fire works.
In keeping with the celebration, The Fullerton Hotel will also reward ten lucky winners with a complimentary weekend night’s stay, by taking a photo of the video projection and uploading the photo to the Fullerton Hotel Facebook page or Instagram page, with a caption of your birthday wishes and hashtag #FullertonSG50LightUp. Don’t forget to ‘Like’ the FB and Instagram pages, and get your friends to like your photo. Contest closes 9 August 11.59pm.
